Young driver charged after allegedly reaching 190km/h in police chase, car wrecked in southwest Sydney

The car was heavily damaged, with a cracked window and crushed hood and bumper.

An alleged high-speed police chase in southwest Sydney has ended in a wrecked car and charges for the driver.

The 23-year-old driver of a grey sedan, carrying a 17-year-old passenger, was caught allegedly exceeding the speed limit on Camden Valley Way in Leppington about 12.20am on Monday.

When police tried to pull the car over, the driver ignored their instructions, sparking a pursuit.

The chase quickly escalated as the sedan reached speeds of up to alleged 190km/h.

However, the police pursuit didn’t last long.

The car veered off the road and crashed near the intersection of Camden Valley Way and Cowpasture Rd.

Footage from the scene shows the car was heavily damaged, with the front window cracked and the hood and bumper badly crushed.

Both the driver and passenger were arrested at the scene and checked by paramedics, though neither required treatment.

The 17-year-old passenger was later released without facing charges.

The 23-year-old driver was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, failing to stop for police, driving at speed during a pursuit, and negligent driving.

Roadside drug and breath tests returned negative results.

He has been granted strict conditional bail and is scheduled to appear at Picton Local Court on May 15.
